Kiraitus Fight On Cancer In Meru Receives Further Boost After Yesterdays Budgetary Allocation By Treasury.

The Governor of Meru County H.E. Kiraitu Murungi together with his Deputy Titus Ntuchiu and County Health officials have this morning met and held discussions with the Management Team of Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) who paid him a courtesy call at his office.

The team was led by the CEO, CPA Peter Mbugua, GM, Power Distribution & Regional Coordination Eng. Esther Ruto and the Manager, Advocacy, Public Education & Awareness Wangari Githii.

REREC has been working with Governor Kiraitu’s administration in providing lighting for markets and towns in the County through high mast floodlights, and today as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) they have partnered with the County Department of Health to support ongoing Cancer Screening exercises in the County, at Githongo Sub County Hospital to combat cancer.

Cancer has been a leading killer disease with Meru County topping nationally in Cancer prevalence. Kiraitu’s efforts to fight the disease received a major boost yesterday when Meru County featured as one of the two counties in the country to be allocated a budget for establishment of a Cancer Center in the country’s 2021/22 fiscal year budget. During their deliberations, Governor Kiraitu requested REREC for further support in expediting power connection to the upcoming Cancer Center at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MeTRH). Governor Kiraitu is remembered as a pioneer founder of REREC (then Rural Electrification Authority-REA) when he was Cabinet Minister for Energy.

Deputy Governor Ntuchiu who is also the county minister for Finance praised the excellent working relationship between Governor Kiraitu’s Government and REREC which has ensured value for money for the people of Meru County.
