By Elijah Gichunge
County Government of Meru roots for enhanced
prevention, coordination & response to Sexual & Gender Based Violence.
The government seeks to strengthen advocacy capacity for women and their rights, effective engagement in collective action and decision making in private and public civic spaces, a key focus of the Meru County Sexual & Gender Based Violence Policy implementation strategy. This will be effected following the launch of a 5-year partnership plan today, between the County Government of Meru and Young Women for Awareness, Agency Advocacy & Accountability(YW4A) project.
Officiating the launch of the program, CEC Gender & Social Development, Linner Nkirote, stated the urgency of the partnership, to aid in effecting Governor Kiraitu's dream for women empowerment through the ambitious Meru Twaweza Program.
According to Young Women's Christian Association of Kenya, (YWCA) National General Secretary, Deborah Olwal, Meru was strategically chosen following its active SGBV policy roadmap that is key in fighting vices that scuffle women's empowerment programs. Meru Assembly Women Caucus Chair, Lucy Mukaria stressed on the need to bridge the generation gaps that exist through policy implementation in Kenya in order to realize positive grassroot impact.
