KIRAITUS ADMINISTRATION IMPROVES TESTING CAPACITY FOR COVID 19 TO GIVE RESULTS IN 24 HOURS

The County Government of Meru under the leadership of Governor Kiraitu Murungi, in line with ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare system to combat the current pandemic of the coronavirus, earlier today received Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test kits and other equipment which will empower health facilities across the County in the war against the killer virus.

While receiving the items on behalf of the Governor, Deputy Governor Hon. Titus Ntuchiu noted that until now the County has been sending covid-19 tests to Nairobi for analysis, where it took more than a week for results to come back but going forward, it will be possible to do the testing at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MeTRH) and return the results within 24 hours.

Hon. Ntuchiu added the County Government has also received 174 advanced hand-washing stations for medical personnel and blood testing equipment which will be distributed to health facilities across the 9 sub counties of Meru to support medical staff in the fight against the virus. He called on Meru residents to continue strictly observing all the MoH guidelines against the disease to help contain the spread.

Speaking during the event, County PS for Medical Services Dr. James Kirimi said the County Health Department is moving with speed to build and strengthen structures in order to cope with the fast evolving situation of the coronavirus, and ensure the disease is defeated to enable resumption to normal lives. Also present was the CEO for MeTRH Dr. Joseph Wang’ombe.
