100 FARMERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTY TO HELP TRAIN FARMERS ON BEST AGRICULTURAL PRACTISES.

With over 80% of Meru’s households dependent on agriculture, inculcating modern agricultural practices will go a long way in not only increasing food on our tables but the household income. It’s with this in mind, the Agricultural department, in partnership with National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project- NARIGP has trained and certified over 100 farmers from across the county on the Farmer Field Schools (FFS).

Accompanied by Agriculture Chief Officer Dionasia M'Eruaki during the graduation ceremony of awarding the trained farmers and agricultural officers, Agriculture CEC, Madam Carol Mutiga said that the Making Meru Great theme can only be attained by uplifting everyone to grow themselves. "Under the Government of Governor Kiraitu Murungi, we are aimed at creating a conducive environment and supporting the farmers in growing themselves" said Mutiga.

The program that engages farmers in the Avocado, Macadamia, Banana and Irish potato value chains hopes to train farmers through the field schools on the best practices so as to increase their production whilst conserving their farms and environment.
