The Governor informed the residents that his administration has intervened and resolved the dispute which has troubled them for many years regarding the site of the renowned market with KENHA, which was threatening its closure.
"I have met KENHA officials and we resolved all outstanding issues. My Government will now facilitate construction of a modern market for you and increase lighting and other amenities," he announced.
Hon. Betty Maina announced that her Ministry is working closely with Governor Kiraitu’s administration to empower the small scale traders by providing flexible and friendly loan facilities through a program that will be unveiled in the coming days.
Later, Governor Kiraitu and CS Maina toured the ongoing construction of the Timau Cold Storage for potatoes where they were impressed by the progress of the project which is expected to help potato farmers from Kisima and Timau area to reduce post-harvest losses and increase incomes because they will be able to store their potato for up to six months after it is harvested.
The massive project is being spearheaded through a partnership between the County and National Governments, in addition to others such projects in Kibirichia and an upcoming Banana Cold Storage in South Imenti.
It is anticipated that the project, once complete will pave way for further development of value addition in the respective value chains of potatoes and bananas and hence, bring more income to farmers as a way of advancing Governor Kiraitu’s vision of Making Meru Great.
