Governor of Meru County H.E. Kiraitu Murungi has today received the British High Commissioner to Kenya , Ms. Jane Marriott OBE(Order of the British Empire) and Hon. Betty Maina, the Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development at Ibis Farm in Timau, Buuri Sub County.

The high level tour is largely aimed to operationalize and strengthen trade relationship through the recently concluded economic partnership agreement between Kenyan Government under President Kenyatta and the UK which provides opportunity for Kenya to expand exports into the United Kingdom. Meru County will benefit in getting more goods to the UK market because the County already accounts for a large portion of over Sh40bn worth of exports from Kenya to the UK especially in flowers, fruits and vegetables.
"We are pleased to be here today to further cement the existing trade relationship between Kenya and the UK because your County provides a large percentage of vegetables in UK supermarkets and about 70% of roses to the UK especially during the upcoming Valentine’s Day. It is therefore fair to say that we have a great romantic relationship with you," said Ms. Marriott.
The Governor welcomed the team to the County, noting that today marks a great step towards expanding market for produce from Meru people to boost his vision of Making Meru Great.
