Meru Gets Ventilator Boost From USAID.
Through a fruitful & cordial working relationship, the County Government of Meru through the Health Department received 7 Ventilators from USAID. The hand-over event, officiated by Meru Governor Kiraitu & his Deputy, Titus Ntuchiu echoed the multi-prong approach underway in a bid to uplift Meru's Healthcare sector..
Receiving the equipment, Governor Kiraitu lauded the move as he welcomed more direct-donor relations that seek to boost not only existing cordial relations with Kenya but also to support the devolved units.
"Previously, County’s efforts to lobby for direct donations to the people from the donors was really difficult. This was a major huddle as it raised various accountability issues whilst reducing service delivery to the people who need it the most. With this in mind, I commend the new model implemented by USAID in ensuring all counties receive ventilators directly as I call upon more donors & partners to consider these modules as it's people-centric & supports the devolution efforts." Said Governor Kiraitu.
Dinah Kihara, USAID representative, retaliated USAID's continued effort to foster a strong relationship between Kenya and the US.
Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump assured Africa of its support in tackling the pandemic. It's with this in mind, the US donated over 270 ventilators (plus the training) to Kenya. Currently, this donated equipment brings Meru's ventilator to 21 fully functional machines.
"As the global comes together in the fight against covid-19, we believe these facilities will go a long way in helping Kenya in remedying its own local Covid cases," added Ms. Kihara.
