Governor Kiraitu Murungi has flagged off the distribution of drought resistant maize seeds (DK-8031 variety) worth over Ksh. 12 million that will benefit over 25,000 farmers through a partnership with BAYER East Africa. According to the Governor, the seeds distribution targets farmers in the semi-arid areas of the county due to the shorter growth period - 90 days. Deputy Governor , Hon.Titus Ntuchiu urged farmers to work closely with the County's Agriculture Department in order to realize maximum production of between 28 to 32 bags per acre. Present was Agriculture CECM, Carole Mutiga who said the county would ensure his officers are on the ground to guide farmers on ensuring maximum yield . Bishop Kirima Ngushine, Central Imenti MP, lauded Governor Kiraitu's development track that is continually empowering lives of the people through agriculture.
