Meru County Assembly Committee on Roads, Energy, Transport and Public Works and the Committee on Implementation, have lauded Governor Kiraitu Murungi for good progress achieved in various ongoing infrastructural projects across the County.
The committees’ respective chairpersons, Hon. Elijah Thuranira of Kibirichia and Hon. Gerverse King’ori of Thangatha accompanied by Roads and Transport Chief Officer George Kimathi, led members on an inspection tour of Governor Kiraitu’s flagship projects at Antubetwe market cabro-paving project, KK-Etama-Karichu and Mutuati-Athi roads in Igembe North; Gitura-South Africa-Nthare market road in Igembe South and Kirima- Mbaranga road in Tigania East.
The committees inspected various aspects of the projects such as the extent(size/scope), durability, quality of works, timeliness of projects delivery as well as the cost implications, where they said they are satisfied that all have been meticulously observed to ensure mwananchi gets value for their tax money and are well in line with what the Governor had promised to deliver.
"There have been various political players claiming to be oversighting the County Government on service delivery and development, but I would like to tell our people that the County Assembly members are the direct representatives of the mwananchi and the lawfully mandated authority to carry out oversight. We are touring all sub counties in Meru to inspect projects and we can confidently say that we are satisfied with what we have seen on the ground," said Hon. Thuranira.
These sentiments were echoed by Hon. King’ori, who said his committee is happy with the smooth working relationship between the Department of Roads and Transport and all the 45 MCAs in the County to ensure that quality projects are delivered at every corner of Meru.
"In our tour, we have even interacted with wananchi and they are very pleased with the projects. We wish to thank the Governor of Meru H.E. Kiraitu Murungi for faithfully following on the manifesto he presented to the people," added Hon. King’ori.
Hon. George Muthuri of Maua and Hon. Shadrack Kamencu of Karama Ward, both supported the observations noting that over the last less than 3 years, their residents have witnessed more development from the current regime than they did in the five years of the previous one.
CO Kimathi thanked the assembly members for cooperating and supporting his department to ensure the works are delivered with minimal challenges. He pledged to continue engaging the honorable members to see that each ward receives quality development projects as promised by H.E. Kiraitu Murungi.
