The County Government of Meru held a conference with partners and stakeholders of People Living With Disabilities (PWD) today in a discussion on effective implementation of rights of PWD.

The County Government, through the department of Gender and Social Development, was commended for being at the forefront in fostering rights of PWDs. It was noted to be the only County in the country with a PWD Sacco, that offers entrepreneurial loans to invest and empower the PWD economically. Governor Kiraitu Murungi was praised for efforts to involve PWDs in his vision to Make Meru Great, in line with his Manifesto Promise to uplift PWDs.

The conference was held to sensitize different members of the community on their roles in Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD). With the county government, the national government, NGO's and PWD associations well represented, the goal of inclusive involvement in sensitization of CRPD was achieved.
