CEC Water Leads Residents In A Tree Planting Exercise In A Bid To Protect Water Catchments.

Meru County Water Executive Member Dr. Eunice Nkirote has led the Upper Thangatha Water Resource Users in a tree planting exercise that saw over 1000 environmental friendly trees planted to protect the zone's water catchments.

According to Nkirote, the exercise which started along Kiithiu river near Kigichwa market as well as Thiiti river around Konju dispensary, will be extended to cover all tributaries of Thangatha river.

Nkirote had promised a few months ago, in a water crises meeting with Tigania Central residents, to mobilize the community in conducting such an exercise which today saw a number of, but not limited to, bamboo, sycamore, mahogany and cypress seedlings planted.

She cautioned people against vandalism but rather asked them to increase tree population while avoiding 'environmental terorists,' the renown eucalyptus, even as the county government continues to provide water to uplift lives

The exercise was done in partnership with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) who donated about 400 bamboo seedlings.
