County To Partner With National Government In Addressing Youth Question.

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has said that his administration will work closely with National Government to address youth poverty, apathy, unemployment and other challenges such as drug and alcohol abuse, which are major problems that are pushing the massive youthful population in the County, into crime, extremist violence and terrorism.

The Governor also urged the Meru private sector to expand and extend their employment opportunities to accommodate more youths as a way of complementing the Government’s efforts to address youth challenges, as well as involving them into economic development and growth of the County.

"Once our youth are empowered economically and are able to earn a sustainable living for themselves, the rates of crimes will drastically reduce," said the Governor.

He was speaking at Timau Stadium where he was the Chief guest during the Launch of County Action Plan on Countering Extremist Violence, organized by the County Security Committee led by County Commissioner Allan Machari.

The Governor also said that Meru County Government will not allow any further incursion of armed camel herders from neighboring counties to disrupt the border residents and their farming activities, noting that Meru residents are majorly agriculturalists and they must be protected to carry out their activities peacefully.

He asked the National Government to return firearms to County KPR officers which were recently withdrawn in a disarmament exercise, noting the officers were fully trained security personnel from Manyani.

County Commissioner Allan Machari thanked Governor Kiraitu and his administration for continued cooperation and close working relationship with the National Government, to enhance security in the County.

The Governor was accompanied by County Executive for Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives Maingi Mugambi, County Secretary Dr. Rufus Miriti, Chief of Staff Hon.
