Governor Kiraitu graced the launch of over Ksh. 150 million worth Mweru Umoja Irrigation project aimed to uplift the lives of more that 700 households in Mworoga Igoji East.
The project launched today by the National Irrigation Board CEO, Gitonga Mugambi, started way back in the year 2011 while the Governor was the then area's MP.
The governor who was accompanied by Meru senator, Mithika Linturi, CEC Water and Irrigation, Dr. Eunice Nkirote and Chief of Staff Gedion Kimathi, Igoji East and West MCAs, asked farmers to make maximal utilization of the project once complete for better outputs.
The Governor, Senator and area MP promised to continue warm working relationship with national government and all leaders to protect the interests of Meru. It is on this that Senator Linturi vowed to support the BBI report, if only it will provide for increased revenue allocation to counties.
Kiraitu asked interested farmers to register for avocado and macadamia seedlings his government intends to distribute this year to boost the two value chains for increased incomes.
The County government has invested Ksh. 20 million on Gikui Mweru phase 1 with an additional Ksh. 8million for its completion this year and used more than Ksh. 7 million in support of community based water projects through Ward development fund.
Mweru Umoja and Akaiga Giant Water Projects are some of the major national irrigation projects the county leadership is lobbying for to ensure people have adequate water for household and irrigation.
NIB CEO, Gitonga Mugambi noted that after a series of successful meetings with the County water department, NIB technical team and the community, completion works on the stalled Akaiga Giant Water Project will began in two weeks time.watch here>>www.facebook.com/merucounty012/videos/549461959139287/
