Governor Kiraitu Murungi has launched a two day training for technical officials manning the International mountain race marathon slated for 8th of February.

He said the aim of the mountain racing was to make Meru county a top destination for both sports and tourism and create opportunities for the youth .

The governor who is also a member of the mountain racing marketing committee said they had got sponsorship from a number of institutions including hotels, banks and private hospitals like Karen.

Meru Sports council Chairman who is also former Athletics Kenya chairs Joseph Kinyua issued a certificate from Athletics Kenya to the governor to give a green light for the mountain racing event .

Mr Kinyua thanked the governor for being at forefront in growth of sports as a source of income for the youth and social transformation .

Equally Spread Truth Africa Director Hamisi Kirenga and Youth Affairs , secretary in the State department of Youth Mr Raymond Ouma echoed the sentiment hence their reason for partnering with Meru county to promote sports talent because of its commitment.

CEC Youth department Koome Miriti and Chief officer Mercy Ndira were in attendance.
