Meru government has partnered with Kenya Defense Forces, Ewaso Nyiro North Development Authority, Meru university and Kuani Mazingira CBO in a bid to rehabilitate Kuani hill.

The hill is about 500 hectares, standing at the boundary of Tigania West and East Subcounties which is a catchment for two springs on the two sides.

According to area Subcounty administrator Kirimi Mugambi, although the sole responsibility of protecting the hill from herders and illegal falling of trees lie on the community, the government has placed guards to secure the hill.

The CBO's chair Joseph Mutuma, said the collaboration has seen about 4000 environmental friendly trees planted.

As held by the Rt. Colonel Sabastian Lekaunye who hails from the area, environmental calamities claims many lives more than external aggression.
