CHINESE BROADCASTER TO BOLSTER TOURISM MARKETING IN MERU COUNTY.

The County Department of Tourism led by the Executive Mr. Maingi Mugambi and his Chief Officer Mr. Titus Murungi, have today led a team of Communication experts from Chinese Global Television Network (CGTN), an international broadcaster from China, who are on a five days expedition of Meru to identify and discover the County’s tourism potential.

The network, which is one of the leading international broadcasters will be partnering with the County Government to market the County globally, as a lead tourist destination in Kenya and Africa.

Mr. Mugambi said that the partnership with the global media giant is aimed at bolstering the efforts to expose the County to the rapidly growing tourist population from China and Asia, in line with Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s pledge to improve the tourism sector and make it a lead economic contributor, in the bid to achieve the vision of Making Meru Great.

"We have already invested heavily in opening up tourism in Meru, especially the Mt. Kenya National Reserve, and the Meru National Park which have remained largely unexploited, where we have already opened the 22km Themwe route to Lake Ellis, 14,000ft up Mt. Kenya. Next year in February, we are holding the first international mountain marathon in Africa right here in Meru, and we are hoping that this partnership with the network is going to play a great role to help bring more tourists and participants to this event," said Mr. Maingi.

Mr. Huang Chen, CGTN Africa bureau Chief, speaking on behalf of the team, said that they are happy to partner with the County Government to open up the tourist opportunities in the County to their wider global audience. He noted that Meru County has a lot of potential and many exciting attractions which will be of great interest to their audience.
