In line with our governor's quest to improve healthcare services to the Meru people, CEC member, Misheck Mutuma, visited the 1st Completed Imenti Campus of the Kenya Medical Training College(KMTC) in Kanyakine.

The campus which has already enrolled over 80 student in it's first offering, will play a major role in training the much needed medical personnel, a factor that has hindered effective service delivery across the Country.

"Setting up a institution that will not only help address the long cues in our health facilities but provide an education and livelihood for our people has been a dream for our Governor. Well, thanks to collaborative partnership with Area MP, Kathuri Murungi, the Catholic Church and KMTC, we hope be enrolling the first batch of students in the Nursing and Clinical officer courses this coming March." Said CECm. Mutuma.

Currently the 86 student are undertaking a course in Community health and development and will be completing in March.

Lauding the efforts of the partners, Deputy Principal of the KMTC Meru Campus, Peter Guchu said " We as KMTC are glad to be part of this partnership. Setting up a a Campus in less than a year show the commitment the leadership of the area, church and the community."

"The essence of devolution was to bring service delivery closer to the people. With health, there is no other way to deliver it other than going closer to the people. With a another Campus being constructed at Miathene, Tigania West, we hope medical practitioners graduating will help bring the current doctor to patients ratio down."
Health Department Director, Koome Muthamia said.

Area MP, Kathuri Murungi's partnership with Governor Kiraitu in setting up facility will go a long way in putting the area on the educational map.
