RESIDENTS GRATEFUL FOR OPENING UP OF TWO MOST IMPASSABLE ROADS IN IGEMBE

County Secretary Dr. Rufus Miriti has lauded Governor Kiraitu Murungi for being the only leader to build the two roads in the Igembe region, which have historically been neglected due to disagreements on whose responsible it was among roads agencies, political leaders and the two levels of government, to build it.

Dr. Miriti said the two, Koore road in Igembe Central which is nearly complete and Kimongoro-Ntherone-Kisimani road in Igembe South whose construction is bound to start in few months time, have caused sufferings to the residents and hampered economic growth in the highly productive areas for a long time, until Governor Kiraitu came to power, and declared that he will build them to serve the people, noting that to the Governor, service delivery to the people mattered more than petty political contests.

"When the Governor committed to construct these roads, he told us as his Government, that when the people on the ground are suffering, it is not those arguing over who should do the roads that suffer, but our people who fail to progress. We therefore want to thank him for this good gesture, and for being the first leader in history to do that to Igembe people," said the CS.

CS Miriti added that Governor Kiraitu’s administration is committed to deliver equitable and transformative development to all parts of Meru, and solving historical problems that have affected the residents. He noted the many projects that have been delivered by the Governor’s government, including Ward Development Allocation Fund projects in all 45 Wards in the County, the 150 boreholes most of which have been sunk in Igembe, health facilities, ECDE classrooms, opening of roads among others.

He spoke at Thaicu Day Secondary School in Kanuni Ward, Igembe South, where he is the board Chairman during the school fundraiser in aid of construction of classrooms. His sentiments were echoed by Kanuni MCA Hon. Mugambi Josphat, who said he has been able to deliver very much for his Ward, because of the close and friendly working relationship he and other MCAs enjoy with the County Government.
