GOVERNOR KIRAITU MEETS USAID TOP OFFICIAL FOR EAST AFRICA

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Director of Missions in East Africa, Madam Heather A. Schildge and officials from the agency have today held a consultative Meeting with Governor Kiraitu Murungi and members of his cabinet, at Meru County Headquarters. The meeting deliberated on identifying areas of cooperation and support between the agency and the County Government on development and capacity building, as well as strengthening existing partnership.

Director Heather noted that the agency has been working with the County Government through Ahadi, to support development programs in various sectors such as education, water, agriculture and health. She said that the consultative engagement will guide them as they draw their strategic plan for the programs of the next five years, adding that they will be taking keen interest in areas where Governor Kiraitu has already established robust programs such as water, youth empowerment and environmental conservation.

"We are particularly impressed by your meticulous organization of the Government, starting with the Meru Economic and Social Council(MESC), the Meru Vision 2040, the various boards and management committees for towns and markets, which indicate your seriousness in service delivery, empowerment and economic development," she told the Governor.

On his part, Governor Kiraitu thanked USAID for the past cooperation on development and expressed commitment to cultivate an even stronger and closer working relationship with the agency, even as it lays down its programs for the next five years. The Governor said that his administration will work with the agency to identify more areas of cooperation and support through the various departments, as he seeks to deliver the vision of Making Meru Great, as he promised to the people of Meru.
