MERU COUNTY STAFF CHOIR DOMINATES THE 2019 KICOSCA GAMES

Meru folk dances and the prowess of the County Choir to adopt folk dances from other tribes in the country, have been the highlight of this year’s 2019 Kenya Inter Counties Sports and Cultural Association games in Kericho County 035. The Meru County Choir scooped position one in cultural folk dance, position two in folk song and number two in borrowed Giriama cultural dance, out of 39 counties that were competing in the categories. The team also won position two yesterday in another cultural dance category performance, losing narrowly to Narok County.
County teams in the darts, tug of war ladies and table tennis were able to reach semi finals and quarter finals. The County Scrabble game team qualified for the finals and it’s lead player, Dr. Patrick Miriti was crowned the top player in the country and he will be representing Kenya at the East African Competitions. The County football team lost narrowly (3-2) to Samburu County in the round of 16.

Speaking at the ongoing games at Kipsigis Girls High School in Kericho, County Executive for Youth Affairs and Sports Koome Miriti said the 13 teams representing Meru at KICOSCA this year have posted a great improvement from last year’s results. Mr. Koome said that the department has received full support from Governor Kiraitu Murungi and has developed elaborate policies aimed at nurturing talent for the youth in Meru County, who also include the County Government workers.

Chief Officer for Sports Mrs. Mercy Ndiira, speaking at the competitions, said the department will support the staff teams to keep improving on their practice and preparations for the games, noting that the County is aiming to be among the top counties in the country from next year.
