RESIDENTS URGED TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN CENSUS EXERCISE

Meru County residents have been challenged to cooperate with the government and take part fully in the upcoming National Census 2019 exercise which takes place on 24th August. Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi speaking at this year’s Catholic Diocese of Meru Family Day at Consolata Primary School Gitoro where he represented Governor Kiraitu Murungi, said that the census will be very important as it will guide on national and County planning, allocation of resources, revenue and development prioritization.
Hon. Kimathi also called for intensified war on cancer disease which has been on the rise and has already claimed many lives, saying that the national government should consider zero rating importation of cancer equipment including the Positron-emission tomography scan machine (PET scan), which he said is the reason many billions are being spent by patients to places like India for treatment. He added that more finances should be allocated to Counties for establishment and equipment of cancer centers and cancer screening programs.
"We are also appealing to our people to come out for education on proper diets and screening for cancer, in order to manage the disease," said the CoS.
Speaking at the event, Kangeta MCA Hon. Romano Mwito, said that members of the county Assembly in Meru are very happy with Governor Kiraitu’s initiative of the Ward allocation development fund, which has ensured that grassroots development is happening at every village in all the 45 Wards across the County.
"As the chair for Committee on Water, I can also say that the 150 high power and high yield boreholes which have already been delivered by the Governor’s administration are truly transforming Meru, especially the arid areas of the County, " said Hon. Romano.
The celebrant for the day, Bishop Salesius Mugambi, called on all Christians to pray and support their leadership to ensure the society triumphs over evils, in the current perilous times of greed for power, bodily pleasures and material prosperity, the same way people close to Moses held up his hands as he prayed for victory during the war with the Amalekites.
The event was also attended by County Executive for Public Service Kiautha Arithi, Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Mutuma Karithi, Director of Enforcement Mr. Mutethia and Catholic clergy from Meru County and Tharaka Nithi.
