Methodist Church in Kenya has been praised for it’s initiatives and lead role in youth development and empowerment programs in Meru County. Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi, speaking at Meru School during the Methodist Youth in Kenya Dunamis XP2 convention, has said that Governor Kiraitu Murungi fully welcomes the church’s supplemental efforts to address challenges facing the youth in the County. He represented the Governor at the function.

"The Governor views the youth not as a problem but an opportunity that must be seized and included in the economic development of Meru, and that is why he has established the Meru Youth Service to equip all our youth with vital skills in various fields of construction, engineering, electricity and service industry, to ensure they participate in transforming our County. Therefore, as a Government we fully support the church to organize conventions such as this one to provide proper spiritual and moral guidance to the youth, even as we strive to empower them economically," said Hon. Kimathi.

Speaking at the function, County Executive for Agriculture Caroline Kagwiria Mutiga, said that her Department is working closely with youth groups across the County to involve them in the Governor’s Youth in Agriculture Program, especially in the recently launched aquaculture Project. She said that through the project, the youth will be empowered to start highly lucrative and profitable ventures in fish farming across the County.

Also Present at the event were the County Executives for Health Misheck Mutuma M’Muyuri, the Executive for Cooperatives Maingi Mugambi and North Imenti Sub County Admin Anderson Kathendu. Mr. Mutuma said that his Department is working closely with youth programs across the County in the health sector.

The event convener, Methodist Church Presiding Bishop Joseph Ntombura thanked the Governor and the County Government for continued support to the Church and cooperation to ensure church programs are smoothly implemented to serve the people.
