KMTC NATIONAL LEADERSHIP 2 DAY TOUR ON CAMPUSES ESTABLISHEMNT IN MERU COUNTY, FOLLOWING NEGOTIATIONS WITH GOVERNOR KIRAITU LAST YEAR

The leadership of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has carried out a 2-day tour of Meru County, with the aim of ironing out the final phase of establishment of 3 new campuses in the County, following deliberations held on 10th April, last year between Governor Kiraitu Murungi and the KMTC management team which had visited Meru, led by the vice chairman Eng. David Muthoga.
The visiting team which was led by the Chairman, Prof. Phillip Kaloki, CEO Prof. Micahel Kiptoo and Board Director Mithamo Muchiri, acknowledged the steps taken by the County Government so far, in readiness for the opening of new campuses at Kanyakine, Miathene and Maua Level 4 Hospitals. After touring the three locations, Prof Kaloki said that they are pleased with the preparations, and the college will be admitting the first classes for Kanyakine and Maua’s Nyambene Level 4 Hospital campuses in September this year and March next year, respectively.
While touring Kanyakine Level 4 Hospital today on the final leg of the two-day tour, Prof. Kaloki lauded the County Government for availing already established facilities such as the already existing classes, labs and other facilities at St. Aloysius School, which he said meets best requirements for the training because of the proximity to the hospital, road infrastructure accessibility, among other conditions. Kanyakine Catholic has already initiated the process of transfer of the 2-acre piece of land to the County Government as KMTC property. This, together with 5-acre piece on which the hospital already sits, plus the 3-acres which house the CDF building next to Kanyakine High School, has been approved to be sufficient land to set up the college, in line with KMTC guidelines.
Meru County Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi who represented the Governor on the tour, praised KMTC leadership for its commitment to the success of establishment of the colleges. Hon. Kimathi said that the opening of the campuses will greatly revitalize the economies of Kanyakine, Miathene and Maua towns, thus contributing greatly to the achievement of Governor Kiraitu’s vision to Make Meru Great.
"The KMTC leaders have assured us that in each of the campuses, they will reserve 40% of the admissions to the regions in our County which host the campus, as well as most of the employment opportunities. This, coupled with the numerous opportunities of businesses that will come up to support the new college towns, will greatly add to the development of our County and we therefore, wish to greatly appreciate KMTC management, and pledge our full support as the County Government," said Hon. Kimathi.
Also present during the tour was Abogeta East MCA Hon. Mwirigi Karinga, Meru County Executive for Health Misheck Mutuma and South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi.
