GOVERNOR KIRAITU LOBBYING EFFORTS BARE FRUITS.

One year ago, Governor Kiraitu Murungi invited the top management of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) to Meru, where he successfully negotiated the setting up of KMTC Campus in South Imenti and Igembe regions. Today, these efforts are paying off, as the leadership of KMTC led by Chairman Prof. Phillip Kaloki and CEO Prof. Michael Kiptoo arrived in the County, to officially lay ground for the kick off of the campuses at Miathene and Nyambene Level 4 Hospitals.

The team which also comprised MPs and MCAs for Tigania West and Igembe South, toured the facilities where the colleges are to be established and gave a clean bill of health, signaling the official opening of the colleges. Prof. Kaloki noted that County Government of Meru has been very supportive and given full cooperation to KMTC during the process, and as a result Miathene KMTC will be admitting the first class of students in March next year.

"We want to thank Meru County Governor, H.E. Kiraitu Murungi and his Government for working closely with us and all stakeholders to see this process has finally come to fruition," said Prof. Kaloki.

Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi who represented the Governor during the tour, said that Governor Kiraitu is fully committed to ensure the success of the project as fulfilment of his promise to deliver best healthcare in Meru County. He noted that besides establishment of the facilities, cabro projects are ongoing in Miathene and Maua towns, financed by the County Government.

"The promised to ensure every part of Meru experiences greatness and that is why you can see these developments taking place in every corner of the County. We want our towns of Miathene and Maua to be great through the establishment of these colleges," said Hon. Kimathi.

County Executive for Health Misheck Mutuma thanked the KMTC leadership for the support in setting up the colleges, and pledged that his Department will continue working closely with all stakeholders to see that the projects become successful and beneficial to both Nyambene region and the entire Meru County.

Tigania West MP John Mutunga and Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi, said that the success of the project shows that Meru County has finally embraced politics of development and progress instead of retrogressive empty political rhetoric meant to cause division, disharmony and hatred. The two legislators echoed Governor Kiraitu’s message, that leaders who bring development don’t play politics but those who make the most noise have nothing to offer.

The KMTC team is expected to tour Kanyakine Level 4 Hospital, where another KMTC facility is expected to be put up.
