Chief of Staff Gedion Kimathi has challenged the masculine gender to take advantage of free monthly cancer screening Kiraitu's government has scheduled for all sub counties.
He termed cancer as an easily manageable disease, if early detected, but many men fear screenings, leaving the exercise for feminine gender only. He added the government has not only established an oncology unit at Meru Level 5 Hospital but also employed an oncologist to help handle cancer cases.
Kimathi said the County government has also signed a partnership with Amphath Kenya to train the medics on arresting the said disease.
The Kenyan economy is growing and this, he urged the parliamentarians to protect devolved units by taking note of the plight of the health sector on which many Kenyans have suffered due to limited resources.
He said this in Igoji while he mourned the demise of Mzee Tiras Miriti, whom he described as being a friend, an arbitrator and a historian who was keen to document the Ameru history and traditions in his authoritative book "Aspects of Ameru Culture; A Socio- Cultural and Political History, 2018.
Tiras was instrumental in setting a base in reference to the political establishments of Meru as a whole and who championed for the elevation of both Maua and Chuka Town Councils into municipalities.
Rich in Kimeru idioms, Tiras had made a remarkable progress in drafting the Kimeru language dictionary until he met his demise.
