CECM Tourism Mr Maingi Mugambi has officially launched Meru 4x 4 challenge a motor sporting event that will be held 15th and 16th in a bid to promote Mountain tourism in Meru.

The event will culminate with road rally from nkubu stadium through Themwe route up to Mt Kenyas, Ellis lake and end at Lake Nkunga.The aim of the event is to market Mt Kenya as a key tourist attraction in Meru

According to the CEC the event was a game changer in tourism industry in Meru.Mr Maingi added other countries like China had successfully tapped the potential in mountain tourism receiving over 67 million of tourists annually and hence the reason for the launch.

Tourism Chief Officer Titus Mithika said the county was Keen to promote other tourist sites like lewa conservancy , Ngaredare and Meru National park through subsequent years of the sporting activity.

Sports Chief officer, Mercy Ndira said besides this event the county will be introducing other games like archery , mountain racing and rugby tournaments to diversify talents in the county.

Vincent Vaati, the event organizer urged the public to come in large numbers to support the participants. He thanked the government for timely support of the event as this is the only way to market various tourist attraction sites in the county.
