Athwana Ward MCA, Victor Karithi has distributed cheques worth sh. 3 million to four schools for the construction of ECDE classes.
This is part of the 20 million Ward Development Fund for the financial year 2018/19 meant to enhance early childhood learning in the ward.
Karithi was accompanied by the Sub county Education Officer, Joseph Kanyuithia, who said each class is set to be constructed at a tune of Ksh. 750,000. He added that the completed classes during financial year 2017/18 are ready for use.
Nkilithu, Limoro, Maitha and Kamanoro are such schools that received cheques while Kibiru and Mweronkoro ECDE classes were completed during the fiscal year 2017/18 courtesy of Ward Fund.
Karithi pointed out that the government is also looking for other sustainable ways of increased food security in the region which is hardest hit by drought.
Sinking of 7 boreholes in the region is part of affirmative actions taken by the county government to avail water for household use and irrigation, with Nauchie and Lailuba boreholes having the greatest irrigation benchmark. The MCA also distributed tree seedlings and food staff to the aforementioned schools.
