GOVERNOR KIRAITUS SKILL PAYS OFF FOR THE FIRE FIGHTING DEPARTMENT.

While adequate funding for all key sectors of the County Governments across the country continues to be a challenge, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has been working hard in creating friendships, connections and partnerships both locally and globally, to ensure that his administration delivers best services, by lobbying for additional financing to bridge the gap in the National Government financial allocation to the County.

The Governor’s dedication has paid off immensely, as evidenced by the agreement reached last year between the County Government of Meru and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service from the County of Bedfordshire in England, to establish a regional training Centre in Meru County. Through this cooperation, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has since donated five fire fighting engines each costing between Sh40-50 million, provided equipment and personnel training for Meru County firefighters, with the latest fire engine donated and delivered today at the County Headquarters by the Service representatives.

Speaking during the ceremony, Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi reiterated Governor Kiraitu’s continued commitment in creating more friendships, partnerships and cooperation, to ensure the people of Meru County get best services through additional funding from these efforts.

"I want to assure our people of Meru that Governor Kiraitu is committed to see fire disasters are properly tackled so that residents don’t continue suffering losses of property and lives through fires. We have so far modernized and equipped our fire stations in Nkubu, Maua, Meru town and now Timau, and we are making arrangements to have another station equipped to serve the Tigania region," said the Chief of Staff.

The new engine will be dispatched to the Timau Fire station. The fire and rescue service specialists and experts from England have also been in Meru for the past few weeks offering advanced training to Meru firefighters, which concluded today with a demo to the public of their newly acquired skills, which was showcased at the County Government Headquarters.

"We are very thankful to our Governor H.E. Kiraitu Murungi for reaching out to you our friends from England, and we immensely appreciate you, the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Community for accepting his invitation to be friends of Meru County. The people of Timau Ward will forever be grateful to you for your friendship and your generosity," said Timau Ward MCA Hon. George Kimathi "Collabo", while receiving the engine.

Accompanying the Chief of Staff at the event, was the Director County Government Special Programs Mr. Kimathi Anthony and other senior County Government officials.
