Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital has perfomed a rare jaw tumor surgery that involved the removal of the 2.5 kg growth tumor from the face . Mr Daniel Ndege , 66 year old , from Imenti North has lived with the tumor for 7 years.

Dr James Kirimi, a mexilofacial specialist ( a facial and jaw specialist ) at Meru level 5 , perfomed the surgery .The surgery which took 5 hours, involved reconstruction of the jaw with a Titanium metal before a follow up surgery .

"We expect after 6 month to insert a bone from various additional bones we have in the body to fully support the jaw" said Dr Kirimi

According to Dr Kirimi the two key procedures will be covered by the hospital bringing a great financial relief for the family.

Isabella Nkirote, the wife said she was forced to go to Kenyatta for medical intervention .She said all these services unknown to her were readily available at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

An excited Isabella recounted her ordeal for seven years due to the tumor "My husband would be fed on fluids because he couldn't eat anything,Meru Level 5 Hospital has come as a relief for me" said Isabella.
