The 2022 presidential politics orchestrated a Capital Seed fundraiser, for St. John the Baptist AIPCA Shepard Sacco, at Kibirione Church in Buuri Subcounty.
The event that was attended by the CS Agriculture, Mwangi Kiunjuri, Governor Kiraitu, Laikipia, Senator John Kinyua, Central Imenti and area MPs, Kirima Ngushine and Mugambi Rindikiri respetively, among other guests, raised calls for a coordinated Mt. Kenya politics in reference to the 'National Cake' share for the region.
Fueled by inceasing Kieleweke and Tangatanga skirmishes that have somewhat destabilised the region, Kiraitu said a time has come for the people of Meru to probe deep the presidential aspirants. He asserted on the need for a political strategy that will give an equal share for over 6 million votes the block has. "Politics is like fire, do not get into politics foolishly. Meru is past that. We won't vote foolishly anymore." Said the Governor.
As the people's Governor, he noted his gratitude to the electorate is working for them. This is why he chose to equalize the County through the 20 million Ward fund, and his commitment to provide water, alongside other sectorial development. He categorically thanked Kiunjuri for the greatest benchmark his Ministry has, in collaboration with Meru Government, so far set in Meru Water sector.
In reference to the political establishments in Mt. Kenya, Kiunjuri said the clergy, politicians and other sectoral leaders have a big responsibility to unite the people. He said he was certain that Kiraitu's extensive political experience will be pivotal in bringing Mt. Kenya people together adding that just like his experience worn him overwhelming trust from many, including President Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, so should be Meru and whole of Mt. Kenya.
In what seemed to address the squabbles arising from politicians money versus church harambees, the CS said the history of politicians and the church is easily traceable. He asked the people not to forget the work of God, for it's through this that blessings trickles to his people.
He was echoed by Chuka Igamba Ngombe MP, Patrick Munene who asked the people to trust and support their elected leaders, while the leaders become responsible. He urged the CS and the Governor to help have the region with unity of purpose, a head of 2022, saiying the region must be more keen and prepared for 2022 elections.
"As members of parliament, let's stop being selfish and give our people direction and not misleading them."
Senator, Kinyua said the nation is enjoying the fruits of the 2nd political revolution championed by Kiunjuri and Kiraitu despite the direful Moi's regime and therefore the experience would be pivotal in uniting the said region.
Rindikiri Mugambi, Area MP. and Central Imenti MP pledged not to decamp the Deputy President's camp and asked President Kenyatta to honour the promise for his Deputy which they said it is in the public domain.
Parallel to this, CEC Tourism Maingi Mugambi, thanked the CS for signing the Irish Potato Regulation which will relieve potato farmers from the abasing 'Mituuru' culture. He thanked the Ministry for the Agricultural Council of Kenya team that that is working with the County Cooperative Department on modalities for its implementation, once it becomes a law, early next month.
