In a public baraza at Kiani Kiraya Primary School, over 500 residents have praised the County Government for sinking the historic borehole in the region.

The borehole has a yield capacity of 18 m³ per hour which translate to 18,000 litres or 900, 20 litre containers, in an hour.

The borehole management committee chair, Romano Kirianki, said the County Government efforts to improve the people's livelihood are coming to fruition. He said he mobilized the community to register for membership through which water connectivity will be done once the pipeline survey is done.

His statement was backed by the area Sub Chief, Joseph Kaluma, who said the borehole offered a big relief to students who used to ferry water from their homes to school, a hectic program.

In exigency of service, County Water Quality Officer, Osman Abdikadir, said the department of water is committed to execute the Governor's agenda for water in order to reduce long treks pursued by people in quest for water. However, he urged the members to make proper use of the water while ensuring the borehole is secure for the project's sustainability

Igembe Central Sub county Administrator, Juliana Mugure, said the government is embracing multi-faceted ways to ensure the people of Meru have access to the water resources. She encouraged them to practise irrigation once the distribution process is effected. Mugure also asked them to team up and work with the area Ward Rep for maximal results.

Monica Nyaguthii, a resident said lack of water had been a major havoc in the region, affecting even learning. She pointed out that people could hardly have a shower before the borehole came to exist in the region. She was pleased to note they have a strong group of 580 registered households for water distribution, to maximally utilize the resource.
