COUNTY GOVERNMENT WORKING WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS CANCER MENACE.

The County Government is working closely with other players in the health sector such as the County Assembly and National Government to address the rising cancer prevalence in Meru County. Speaking at the funeral ceremony for late Gladys Kaburo Murithi at Nkubu, Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi said that Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s Administration is putting in place all measures to try and arrest the runaway cancer scourge, which has claimed many lives in the County. Late Gladys, who was the wife of former Nkuene Ward MCAbNick Mburugu, passed on after a long battle with cancer.
Hon. Kimathi also called on residents of Meru to continue supporting Governor Kiraitu in his mission to Make Meru Great, urging them to shun divisive political rhetoric which is being advanced by persons with personal interests. The CoS said that the Meru voter, will have an opportunity to evaluate the delivery of promises the Governor made in the campaigns for the last elections, in 2022.
"There are those who keep insulting the Governor on somber occasions such as this one, seeking for political engagements in war of words. The fact the Governor may not always respond, doesn’t mean he can’t talk back. It just means he is more civilized and cultured, enough to realize that funerals should not be used as political rallies, but honored as venues for comforting and mourning with the bereaved," added Hon. Kimathi
Speaking at funeral, the CEC member for Sports and Youth Affairs Hon. Daniel Kiogora advised Meru residents to utilize cancer screening services being offered in all health facilities across the County. He said that he was sure the service was available in all levels of health facilities in the County, including dispensaries.
"I am aware of this because myself, I underwent the same screening at my local health center in Githongo," CECM Kiogora said.
He also said that Governor Kiraitu’s Cabinet members are fully focused on delivering on the his manifest promises in their respective dockets, and will not be swayed into engaging in the political theatrics, at the expense of service delivery to Mwananchi.
Other speakers at the event who had accompanied the Chief of Staff and CECM Kiogora, were Political Activists Mike Makarina and Praise Edwin alias Kiongozi. Mr. Kiongozi challenged the political class in Meru to shun retrogressive politics and instead focus on seeking solutions to problems affecting Mwananchi, such as the cancer menace.
On his part, Mr. Makarina thanked Governor Kiraitu Murungi for his continued commitment to ensure equality in distribution of resources and employment opportunities across the County. He particularly appreciated the Governor’s key role in the appointment of former Tigania East member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), after his unsuccessful bid recapture Tigania East Parliamentary Seat, which he lost to Hon. Gichunge Kabeabea.
The funeral was also attended by South Imenti MP Hon. Kathuri Murungi, South Imenti MCAs Kireeria Mwobobia, Martin Makasi, Mwirigi Karinga, Mutembei Mbiuki and Evans Mawira, several nominated MCAs among other religious and political leaders.
