The long distance made by Tigania East, West and Central residents in quest for land titling services has now come to an end as the CEC Lands, Jeremiah Lenya today received the new land registrar, Mr. John Mwangi.

This comes following a crash program rolled out last year through the County, national governments collaboration, to fast track the land titling for the entire Meru North region which had began in the early 1960s

speaking at his office, Lenya thanked the Director of Survey and the general relationship of the two tiers of government, saying the gesture was good as it will help decongest Maua registry which has been serving the region.

Also, the Registry Index Mapping (RIM) services commonly known as "mapping" will now be, as of first April, availed at the County headquarters unlike earlier times where one was required to access them from Embu, which served as the Eastern Province Headquarters before the devolved governments era.

He insisted that all the licensed surveyors and their approved assistants operating in Meru County have to register with the county government. This, he said will help strengthen county planning, delivery of quality services to the people and consequently prevent rogue surveyors from opressing the less fortunate.

Futher, he emphasized that all the Survey schemes must be submitted to his office for authentication .

This was echoed by Mr. Peter Waweru, County Surveyor who said his office is committed at ensuring there is quality control and development control. As discussed in an earlier meeting with land stakeholders, Waweru asserted that all subdivisions must be subject to the development plan, to ensure there's a sustainable usage of land in Meru County . He hinted a meeting with the planners and surveyors next week a head of implementation of the deliberations.

On his part, Mr. Mwangi who initially was in Thika Land Registry, appreciated the welcome saying he will prove his commitment to serve the people of Meru, by ensuring that all the registrations done are guided by the state law as well as the county by- laws.

The registry was opened in the region by the Deputy President, William Ruto last year in order to decongest the only existed Maua Rigistry.
