Majority Leader Meru County Assembly Victor Karithi, has asked Meru people to shun divisive politics and join hands in the fight against all sources of poverty.

Speaking during the Tigania West women empowerment training, Hon. Karithi said the Governor committed 20 million Ward Development fund for all sectorial development at the ward level, something he said is worth embracing.

He advised the Women to form strong women groups and CBOs through which they can easily access government finances as well as other philanthropists. He assured them of the County Assembly's support to all women empowerment initiatives.

Dr. Kanyuithia, Area MP, equally praised the initiative saying that the problems are real locally and therefore empowering the people at the grassroots is necessary.

"If you want to know people’s problems you must go deep in the society" emphasized Dr. Mutunga.

He thanked the Meru Governor saying that he is a visionary leader and that no other county has ever thought of women like such. Mutunga said an empowered woman is an empowered society, in that the women complements the overall contributions of men in developing a society.

The two leaders also asserted that the heritage of the people of Meru is an important aspect of our social economic life. They held that other Communities are known for their strong traditions and Meru which has a rich cultural heritage must safeguard its identity.

The two appealed for other Meru leaders to back the establishment of a Cultural Centre at Nchiru which they said it is a strategic place where even the Njuri Ncheke Shrine is.

According to Dr. Mutunga, with the presence of a cultural Centre, Njuri Ncheke headquarter and Museum, this will make it easier for the visitors as this is a strategic place. This he said the Njuri Ncheke Council of elders will be key in showcasing and explaining the traces of our origin.

This comes amid the formation of Meru County Cultural Board to peddle the process of establishing the aforementioned Cultural Centre at Nchiru.
