County Hands Over Land To Set Up The Court Of Appeal In Meru
Meru County lands executive Jeremiah Lenya on Thursday handed over the ownership documents of the property to host the proposed Court of Appeal to the judiciary.
The handover ceremony held the High Court of Meru marks successful transfer of land and ownership to the Judiciary. The Judiciary had in the past made a request to the County for provision of land in Milimani area.
Justice Francis Gikonyo said the handover is a major step in the journey of ease congestion at current facility that was set up in 1966. ‘’ The new facility once complete will translate to better court service in line with judiciary’s vision of taking services closer to the people," he added.
Lenya said Governor Kiraitu Murungi who tasked him to fast tract the process was very keen to have the second highest court decentralized to Meru to ease the agony of travelling to Nyeri to seek justice.He said the Governor has played a pivotal mediation role in settlement of cases in Ikiao and Mbwaa 1 adjudication areas.
County Secretary Rufus Miriti, Legal affairs Executive Kiautha Arithi and Chief of Staff Gideon Kimathi also attended the Ceremony.
