County Buys Drugs For Health Facilities
Meru Level 5 Hospital has today started receiving consignments of medicine and other supplies. The restocking process to the Level 5, level 4s and other levels of health facilities across the County will continue throughout the week.
While overseeing the first delivery of the consignments at the hospital, the Chief of Staff Hon. Gideon Kimathi issued a stern warning to political actors who are using the hospital to play politics. He warned politicians to stop turning the hospital facility into a political playground, with the intent of sabotaging the ongoing development projects there. He noted that the facility is receiving the first project since the start of devolution in 2013, where a twin story block is being put up. The block will expand the hospital wards by up to 420-bed capacity.
"Those bent on seeking political magnification need to avoid doing that by creating negative publicity to our Level 5 hospital," said Chief of Staff. He added that while the current administration is striving to expand the facility, the previous regime had only done cabro pavement over a few meters.
Speaking at the event, the County Secretary Dr Rufus Miriti who accompanied the Chief of Staff, revealed that the County Government is in the process of promoting nurses and increasing number of personnel in the County. He said that the County is currently due to receive 10 doctors and 50 nurses in the coming months, to improve service delivery.
The Hospital administration led by the CEO Dr James Kirimi said that they have taken note of challenges experienced in procuring drug consignments from KEMSA. As a result, they are putting measures in place to streamline the process and avoid any delays in future deliveries.
