Kiraitu Inaugurates Tourism Board
Governor Kiraitu has launched an 8-member Meru County Tourism Board that will propel the County's tourism sector.
The board which is under the chairmanship of Prof. John Nkinyangi, who has great national and international exposure as an Advisor for Social and Human Sciences in Africa, has been charged with the mandate to rebrand Meru tourism sector, the second potential Meru's source of revenue after agriculture.
The highly skilled team will help the administration to deliver in raising the said sector by coming up with a Masterplan and implementable tourism flagship projects that will involve the two tiers of the government, the private sector, Communities and NGOs in order to boost the Meru cultural festivals, mountain, safaris, sports and water tourism.
Plans to upgrade the Njuri Ncheke Cultural centre at Nchiru where the County can archive the rich Meru history, traditions and diverse cultural heritage, are underway.
To maximumly exploit the attractive Meru National Park's potentiality, the government intends to establish a 5 Star Hotel at the Park and also take advantage of the equator line that also passes through the park and Githongo.
The other members of the team include Dr Tuqa Jirmo, Chief Operating officer Lewa Conservancy, Titus Murungi, CO County Tourism Department, Phineas Kimathi, Chair Kenya Motor Sports Federation, Hon. Raphael Muriungi, Former Deputy Governor, Meru who is also former Asst. Minister Tourism, Christopher Kirimi Chair YETU Sacco, Charity Mukonene and Rosemary Kirimi who have long experience in Hotel industry.
