GOVERNOR KIRAITU LEADS MEETING ON LAPSSET CORRIDOR PROGRAM

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has today led Meru County Leadership in a Consultative Meeting with officials from the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, Ministry of Energy, National Land Commission and LAPSSET Secretariat on LAPSSET Corridor Program.

The meeting was convened by LAPSSET Secretariat to expound on the program, address land acquisition and compensation process to Meru communities living along the Corridor for the project development and engaging them in accordance with the constitutional requirement of public participation.

Governor Kiraitu welcomed and thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the appointment of Mr Titus Ibui from Meru as Chairman LAPSSET. He commended the progress report presented on the project and the efforts of the team to reach out to the leadership.

"The Meru County leadership is in full support of the project including the fast-tracking speedy issuance of title deeds for the residents living along the Corridor to be paid compensations so that the project can move smoothly and with haste", added Governor Kiraitu.

Meru is expected to reap massive benefits from the project such as the LAPSSET Superhighway passing through the County, the Standard Gauge Railway from Lamu to Ethiopia and Lamu to South Sudan and the Development of Isiolo Resort City.
