GOVERNOR KIRAITU ROOTS FOR INVOLVEMENT OF COMMUNITIES IN SHARING COUNTIES WEALTH IN THE ASALS
Governor Kiraitu Murungi says discoveries of minerals like the oil wells in Turkana is a new frontier for economic transformation for the country.
He however cautioned that the minerals and other natural resources around the country can only be beneficial only if the National and County Governments involve local communities in exploiting them.
Governor Kiraitu noted that failure to involve local communities has only escalated the suspicion that has manifested itself through resistance from the people.
This, the Governor said had negatively impacted development of the mining sector in the country.
The Governor cited oil in Turkana, Wind Power in Marsabit, Hydro-power in Tana, Solar Power in Garissa as well as the Tsavo and Meru National Parks as some of the key natural resources in the country.
