GOVERNOR KIRAITU MURUNGI CELEBRATES ONE YEAR IN OFFICE
Governor Kiraitu Murungi celebrated his one year in office with Bishops from various parts of the County at his office, where they came for a moment of prayer and reflection.
The Governor said that he looks back to his first year as Governor, with joy and gratitude to God, for his vision of Making Meru Great is well on course. He noted that there has been a great success in regard to promises he made to the people of Meru, one of which is the provision of water in the drier areas of Meru County. So far, 92 boreholes have been productive and it is expected that the targeted 100 boreholes for this financial year will be completed and fully operational in the next few months.
The Youth Empowerment initiative, rolled out through Meru Youth Service Program (MYS), is yet another achievement of Governor Kiraitu during his first year in office. He pointed out that, out of the 1000 youth benefiting from this program, 400 have been trained and incorporated into the healthcare system as Community Health Workers to promote health service delivery across the County. The remaining 600 are at The Meru National Polytechnic, where they are receiving technical skills and expertise in order to be absorbed into other sectors of the economy.
Governor Kiraitu also reiterated his commitment to empowering farmers through promoting cash crop farming. He said that plans are underway to distribute 1 million macadamia and 1 million avocado seedlings.
In regard to the provision of free milk to ECDE children, the Governor said the implementation of the program has had great success. He also promised to appoint at least two Bishops to the Meru Municipal Board and asked the Bishops to stand with his Government through prayers and spiritual guidance in order to promote uprightness, improved morality and good citizenship among the people of Meru County. This way, he said, it will be easier to realize our dream of Making Meru Great.
On their part, the clergy lauded the Governor for staying true to his course to deliver promises made during campaigns and ensuring that his leadership style is ‘effective service delivery and development’ oriented, focusing on positively changing the lives of the common mwananchi. The Bishops also promised continued support for the Governor and his administration.
