Governor Kiraitu has released the Retention Enhancement Funds and Scholarship Funds Cheques worth Ksh. 90 Million and Ksh. 13 Million respectively, to the Secondary Schools across the 45 Wards. The fund released will help the bright and needy students to do academic exploits.
Speaking at the County Headquarters, the Governor said that his dream is to empower the esteemed people of Meru economically, through agriculture, which will give them more money to invest in education and raise performance bars in Meru divide, rather than largely over depending on bursaries which he termed a sign of poverty. He said the bursaries alone cannot end the education challenges.
The Governor noted that Meru County can't be great without improved education. He said the cordial relationship his administration has had with the National Government and Meru County Assembly will see a Great Meru.
On the increasing arson cases in schools countrywide, the Governor advised the principals and parents to ensure the schools are insured against fire to avoid burdening the parents. He emphasized on the need for a collective responsibility in safeguarding school property as well as protecting the interests of learners.
The CEC Education, Ms. Linner Nkirote passionately appealed to the students to uphold discipline and be wise not to be easily incited, and their principals to look after the students they represent. "Institutions are as good as their managers," she added. The function brought together key players in the Ministry of Education, County Director of Education, Dr. Salome Maina, Sub-County Directors of Education, K.N.U.T, Principals and B.O.M Members.
The CECMs and the Members of Meru County Assembly, led by the speaker Mr. Kaberia Arimba were among the invited guests. MCAs pledged to support the Governor’s intentions to make Meru great. #MakingMeruGreat
