MYS TO PLAY A KEY ROLE IN THE UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE PROGRAM

Governor Kiraitu has today presided over the graduation ceremony of the MYS Health Cohorts at St. Joseph's Cathedral Meru town.

As it is the norm to rejoice and thank the Almighty for a journey well finished, the day was full of joy with families and friends from diverse corners of Meru County, coming to witness this colourful ceremony.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Governor advised the graduands to use the skills learnt practically, with the aim of creating awareness on the preventive and promotive (primary) health care, across Meru.

In addition, he said the team will use among other strategies, the community social groups, Chief's Baraza and church meeting forums to enlighten Meru people through the program.

The Governor thanked the church leadership for availing space for training the youth. The team will get refresher courses to share experiences and review general program implementation. They will also undergo training on environment programs this September, to make them good environmental brigade.

The health CEC, Ms Eunice Kobia, noted the group to have done courses on Personal hygiene, Maternal Healthcare, Communicable & Non-communicable diseases, First aid and Universal health care.

The Meru Ecosystem Conservator Mr John Njoroge said the Kenya Forest Service will be pleased to work with the team as environment brigade. "We are pleased to work with Meru Governor, who is the Chair Environmental Committee in the Council of Governors, in protecting & rehabilitating our forests." Said Mr.Njoroge.

The function brought together key players in the government. County Secretary, Mr Rufas Miriti, Chief of Staff, Mr Gideon Kimathi, CEC Youth and sport, Mr Daniel Kiogora, Linner Kailanya, CEC Education, Kiutha Arithi, CEC Public Service & Legal Affairs.

Area MCA. Elias Murega, Chair Health Committee, Mr Martin Mworia were also present and pledged to support the program.
