WOMEN IN MERU COUNTY TO BENEFIT FROM EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

In a show of continued support, Governor Kiraitu, on the 12th of April, 2018 pledged to set aside ksh.10 million to go towards women empowerment programs implemented by the Women Empowerment Program (WEP) under the department of gender, culture and social development.
Speaking as he hosted the Public Service Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary (CS), Prof Margaret Kobia who was on a two-day visit in Meru County. The Governor and the CS distributed cheques worth Ksh6.4 million from the Women Enterprise Fund and Uwezo Fund kitties to 55 Self-Help Women Groups in Buuri Sub-County, benefiting a total of 1262 members. The two kitties have since inception, distributed a total of Ksh355 million in Meru County while repayment by the beneficiaries stands at 95 per cent.
