County Government To Open 2 MicroFinance Branches In Laare And Timau
The County government of Meru will open two new micro-finance bank branches to allow residents access banking services closer to their businesses. According to Meru governor Peter Munya the two branches will be opened in Timau and Laare to supplement the already existing branches in Maua and Meru towns.
"The main aim will be to reach to more Meru residents so that they can uplift their lives economically and socially through affordable loans. Today at least 1,237 clients have benefited. This financial year the bank is to disburse about Sh. 189 million", he said. Elsewhere the governor said his administration has purchased and will soon distribute high breed milk goats to farmers' groups in the county.
"We have bought 1,000 dairy goats that have high quality yields, which were given to farmers' groups. We have also enhanced services and equipped the Kaguru milk plant", he said.
He added that the county government has prioritized developing a friendly environment and has constructed three new modern livestock markets at Ngundune, Muthara and Kangeta. New markets are being constructed at Naathu, Subuiga, and Kiutine. He further said his government is encouraging and fully supporting fish production and consumption through establishing two fish processing plants, a fish hatchery and a trout farm.
"Our endeavor is to generate vibrant strategies and programs to improve fish production. The Kanyakine fish processing plant is now operational and it is a high potential economic booster to farmers", said Munya.
