H.E. Governor Mutuma M'Ethingia today chaired a consultative meeting with delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Cereal Growers Association, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Tobacco-Free Farms Initiative led by Dr. Doris Kirigia to discuss strategies for reducing tobacco-related health risks while promoting sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

The meeting focused on strengthening public health through tobacco demand reduction, farmer sensitization, crop diversification, and enhanced multi-sectoral coordination. The discussions also explored technical and strategic support for alternative farming opportunities, particularly in tobacco-growing areas, through investments such as borehole development to improve agricultural productivity.

Governor Mutuma reaffirmed his administration's commitment to empowering farmers with sustainable income opportunities from alternative crops while advancing public awareness and community engagement initiatives aimed at protecting the health and well-being of Meru residents.
