Nkubu Municipality Validation Plan: Governor Mutuma Engages Taita Community
The Meru County Government remains deliberate and committed to uplifting communities by promoting sustainable growth through continuous engagement and public awareness on the importance of development initiatives. In line with this commitment, H.E. Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia led an interactive public engagement session during the presentation of the proposed Nkubu Municipality Validation Plan Exercise Report, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue with community members.
The report comprehensively captured the needs, concerns, and grievances of the Taita Community, outlining key issues raised by residents, the current status of the area, and proposed recommendations. Among the matters discussed were the Nkubu Municipality boundary, proposed bypass road routes, planned road widening, the need for enhanced public awareness on these developments, improved drainage planning, proper zoning of business areas, encroachment on road reserves, land grabbing, and industrial land use, including the existence of unidentified structures.
Additional concerns highlighted included compensation for affected roads and land, with emphasis on the need for clear, lawful modalities involving legal landowners. The community strongly expressed the desire for land within the municipality to remain freehold and underscored that any proposed changes should only be undertaken after thorough public participation and consultation prior to implementation.
Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia commended the Taita Community for their resilience and unwavering commitment to advancing Nkubu Town to municipal status through an inclusive and consultative approach. He reaffirmed that his administration fully supports these noble efforts, emphasizing that together, all stakeholders will ensure the success of these initiatives for sustainable development and the common good.
The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor H.E. Lindah Kiome, Nkuene Ward MCA Hon. Martin Makasi, CECM Lands, Physical Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Public Works Joy Karwitha, CECM Education, Science, Culture and Arts Dr. Esther Rukunga, CECM Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries Jenaro Gatangugi, Taita Community Chairman Samuel Gitonga, Nkubu Town Manager Ken Kamashinani, alongside other distinguished leaders.
