MERU, EMBU AND THARAKA NITHI COUNTIES UNITE FOR A GREENER MT.KENYA EAST.

Today, Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia joined his counterpart Governors from Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties in signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding on Waste Management.

The agreement marks a new era of regional cooperation-a shared declaration to redefine waste, transforming it from a burden into a resource for energy, innovation, and economic opportunity. Through this pact, the three counties will pursue sustainable, long-term solutions for waste management across markets, urban centers, and major challenge areas such as the Lake Nkunga dumping site.

This powerful partnership will enable the counties to:

  • Develop joint waste processing and recycling facilities.

  • Promote clean energy and circular economy initiatives.

  • Create green jobs for the youth.

  • Protect and preserve the natural beauty of the environment.

During the signing, Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia emphasized that progress is not achieved in isolation but through vision, leadership, and collaboration. He reaffirmed Meru County’s full commitment to the partnership.

Together, the three counties are building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Mt. Kenya East for generations to come.
