FROM MERU TO ETHIOPIA: BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS FOR A RESILIENT FUTURE.

Today, leaders from across Africa and global representatives gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 13th Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA XIII), held under the theme "Empowering Africa’s Climate Action with Science, Finance and Justice." Among them was H.E. Governor Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia, who carried with him the spirit and resilience of the Meru people.

This conference served as a powerful reminder that Africa’s climate journey is not only about survival-it is about justice, resilience, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. As discussions on climate financing and community-driven adaptation unfolded, Meru’s participation showcased how the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme is transforming challenges into opportunities and vulnerability into resilience.

Just a day before the Addis Ababa sessions, Meru had the honor of hosting a high-level delegation from the State of Nebraska, USA, led by Hon. Bob Evnen, Secretary of State, together with senior officials from the University of Nebraska. Their visit, grounded in the strong partnership between the Government of Kenya and Nebraska, opened new doors for transformative collaboration. Discussions covered beef farming and feedlot organization, boosting dairy productivity through improved feed processing, enhancing beef animal breeding, and adding value to hides and leather. A major highlight was the University of Nebraska’s interest in establishing a Beef Breeding and Disease Control Institute in Meru-a game-changing opportunity that was warmly welcomed.

In Addis Ababa, Governor M’Ethingia carried a clear mission: to seek greater investment and partnerships that will unlock value addition for Meru’s rich agricultural produce-including avocado, macadamia, tea, coffee, potatoes, bananas, miraa, and dairy-while emphasizing the undeniable link between climate change, food security, and health. At the same time, Meru called for expanded FLLoCA funding to scale up critical projects in water harvesting, sustainable agriculture, clean energy, and community empowerment.

Meru is rising with courage and purpose. From fertile farms to vibrant cooperatives, from the hands of hardworking people to the unity that defines them, the county is determined to show Kenya, Africa, and the world that its future is bright, its spirit unshakable, and its destiny unstoppable.
