Meru County Strengthens Global Ties: Nebraska Partnership Targets Healthcare And Economic Empowerment.
The County Government of Meru - 012, under the leadership of H.E. Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia, hosted a high-level delegation from the State of Nebraska, USA, for a dinner meeting aimed at forging transformative partnerships for the benefit of the county’s residents. The American delegation was led by Nebraska’s Secretary of State, Bob Evnen.
Discussions during the meeting focused on two critical pillars for Meru’s future: strengthening healthcare and boosting economic empowerment.
On healthcare, the Meru County administration presented a comprehensive proposal for collaboration in cancer research and prevention. The initiative seeks to investigate the root causes of the high incidence of cancer in the region and to develop effective mitigation strategies. A central priority is eliminating health risks from the food chain, with a particular emphasis on eradicating aflatoxin, to safeguard the well-being of families across the county.
On the economic front, the meeting explored key investment opportunities in agribusiness. Proposals included the establishment of a new tannery and the modernization of Meru’s beef and dairy industries. These initiatives are envisioned to create sustainable employment, particularly for the youth, and to enhance financial returns for local farmers.
This engagement marks a significant milestone in H.E. Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia’s agenda to attract international cooperation that drives local development and secures a thriving future for Meru County.
