Groundbreaking For The Construction Of An Ultramodern Twin Tower At Meru Teaching And Referral Hospital.
H.E. Governor Hon. Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia expressed great honor and immense pride in announcing a pivotal moment in the history of Meru County. His administration has worked diligently to forge a strong, collaborative, and productive relationship with the national government, founded on a shared vision for a prosperous Kenya. He noted that this partnership is now bearing magnificent fruit and delivering transformative projects that will touch the lives of every resident.
During a groundbreaking ceremony presided over by H.E. the Deputy President, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the County officially launched the construction of an ultramodern twin tower at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
At the forefront of this new era of development is a monumental achievement in healthcare. The Governor was thrilled to announce that, through a landmark initiative championed by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital is being elevated to a Level 6 facility. Significant steps are already underway to modernize the hospital’s infrastructure for this transition. Once complete, the hospital will be classified as a Level 6 national referral facility and managed as a parastatal under direct funding from the National Government - an approach that secures its long-term future and guarantees it will be equipped to the highest possible standard. Phase one of this historic project is on a fast track and is expected to be completed within seven months, after which phase two will commence immediately.
As one of the few counties chosen for this national elevation, Meru is poised to become a regional hub for healthcare, ensuring that the people of Meru - and indeed the entire region - have access to the highest quality of specialized services. The Governor also proudly highlighted that the people of Meru are embracing the government’s transformative health agenda. The continued rise in Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, which has progressed from just 27% to an impressive 50%, demonstrates the county’s shared commitment to building a healthy and secure future for every family.
